From Victoria on the island of Mahé, you will first sail to La Digue, where a veritable picture-postcard of the Seychelles awaits you: palm trees, granite rocks, white sand and crystal-clear waters.
You will extend these activities at sea and on land on the sublime Saint François Atoll.
After a stop on the sublime Assumption Island, you reach the reach the Aldabra atoll, a pristine natural sanctuary listed as a Unesco World Heritage site.
Further on, the small islands Astove will be an opportunity to snorkel and dive among bright-coloured sea life.
Your next ports of call will provide opportunities to discover several of the wonders of Tanzania. You will explore the ruins of the 13th-century Swahili trading past of Kilwa Kisiwani, the small coral island of Misali as well as Pemba Island and its clove plantations and fantastic scuba diving.
This fabulous trip will draw to an end in Zanzibar, a city with superb UNESCO-listed buildings, blending African, Arab, Indian and European influences over more than a millennium.

Peter Campbell
Dr. Peter B. Campbell is a Lecturer in Archaeology at Cranfield University in the UK. Originally from the Great Lakes region of the United States, he has directed underwater expeditions in eight countries. His PhD in Archaeology is from the University of Southampton in the UK, while his MA is from East Carolina University in the US. Peter's research spans the world, from the cave lakes of North America and H.L. Hunley submarine (1863) to the Swedish warship Vasa (1628) in the Baltic Sea, to the world's largest concentration of ancient shipwrecks in the Mediterranean at Fournoi, Greece, and the schooner Wawona in the Pacific. Recent research surveys the southern coast of Tanzania, revealing the intricacies of Indian Ocean trade. In addition to underwater archaeology, he is an expert in art crime investigation, directing the heritage crime program at Cranfield University. Working together with the OSCE, UN/UNESCO, INTERPOL, FBI, Carabinieri, US Homeland Security, Metropolitan Police, and other law enforcement agencies, he has developed forensic and training methods, and contributed to investigations of art and antiquities theft. Peter has appeared widely in the media, with his research covered by major news networks. His TED Ed lessons for students have been viewed over 5.4 million times. He has written articles for the New York Times, Bloomberg, and Guardian, and appeared in documentaries airing on BBC, History, Discovery, and National Geographic.

Expedition programmes include activities such as zodiac outings and landings (sometimes with "wet landings"), moderate walks to more active hikes, all accompanied by your expedition team of naturalist guides.
Ports of call, visited sites, outings and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain and the Expedition Leader may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. In remote areas, please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is extremely expensive. Without adequate medical coverage, all expenses will have to be immediately paid with your personal funds. During the days spent on board, you are advised to wear comfortable clothes or casual outfits. The entire ship is air-conditioned, so a light sweater, a light jacket or a shawl may be necessary. When moving about in the public areas of the ship and the decks, light but comfortable shoes are recommended.

PRECAUTIONS:
In your hand luggage, remember to bring any medicines that you need, and possibly a small spare bag of toiletries (in case of delay in the delivery of your baggage by the airline). Remember to always have your travel documents with you in case you need them: hotel vouchers, cruise vouchers, return flight tickets... Never leave them in your hold luggage.
All our cabins have a safe. We recommend not to go ashore with valuable jewellery.

Diving - Expedition Cruise
Supervision of the dives
Your dives will be led by your PONANT instructor. He will take care of your safety and that all goes smoothly. On some diving sites, as in natural reserves or if the local regulations require it, a local guide will escort the diving.
Level required for scuba diving on this cruise
The minimum level required for scuba diving on this cruise is 2 star CMAS or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent). The certification card, the diving log book and a recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to our main diving instructor.
Process of the dives (certified divers)
The instructor reserves the right to check divers’ ability for maximum safety. As we will dive in remote places, the dives will be done without decompression stop. A safety stop of 3 minutes at 5 metres will be mandatory. The depth that can be reached will depend on the certification of the divers:
- For those with PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate (or equivalent), the maximum depth can be up to 25 metres.
- If two PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or equivalent) wish to dive together independently, they must have a briefing first. They must have dive computers and are allowed to go to a maximum depth of 20 metres.
Duration of the dives
The diving activity lasts from 2 to 3 hours, which includes the journey to the diving site and the diving. This duration may vary according to the site, the level of divers, weather conditions and the number of participants. For experienced divers, the duration of dives varies between 35 and 60 minutes depending on the site, the diver’s experience and consumption.

Mask and snorkel: for health reasons due to Covid-19, we strongly recommend that you come on board with your own mask and snorkel .As an exception, you will be able to borrow them in accordance with sanitary conditions.
The passenger may participate in scuba diving activities, subject to compliance with certain conditions established in accordance with the health, scientific and medical measures applicable on the day of the dive.

Fauna and flora of the Indian Ocean
The fauna of the Indian Ocean is very varied. During the various dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as napoleon fish, oriental sweetlips, blackspotted sweetlips, batfish, and pelagic fauna such as manta rays, gray reef sharks, dolphin fish, rainbow runner as well as endemic wildlife such as different soft corals.

Discover Mahé, the main island of the Seychelles and also the largest of the archipelago, home to the capital, Victoria. Mahé has almost 70 beaches of fine sand, framed by the emblematic granite rocks, and whose crystal clear waters are renowned for their rich underwater life. The island is also famous for its splendid mountain panoramas accessible on hikes, such as the Morne Seychellois, which is 905 metres high and overlooks the Indian Ocean. Mahé is also an island full of history where fine colonial properties rub shoulders with Creole houses - and don’t forget the marvellous Botanical Gardens in Victoria.

La Digue Island is a veritable concentration of all the beauty of the Seychelles. Located 6 km south-east of Praslin, this small piece of land that looks like paradise is the third-largest island in the Seychelles, despite its modest size (5 km by 3 km)! Turquoise waters just asking you to swim in them, lush vegetation sheltering giant tortoises, beaches of fine sand fringed with coconut trees and surrounded with those emblematic large granite rocks with their pink highlights like at the famous Anse Source d’Argent: the perfect picture postcard… Authentic and preserved, the island follows a peaceful rhythm, with the only means of transport along its little roads being bikes or traditional oxcarts.

Assumption Island is part of the Aldabra group (Outer Islands), situated in the south-west of the Seychelles. Discovered in the mid-18th century by the French captain Nicolas Morphey, this bean-shaped island covered in dunes and shrubs is relatively flat. A handful of people live there, in a small village in the island’s west. The island’s beaches are a major egg-laying and breeding site for sea turtles. The surrounding waters are ideal for scuba diving. This is where Jacques-Yves Cousteau filmed some of the scenes for his famous documentary film “The Silent World”, released in 1956.

Closer to Madagascar than to Victoria, Astove is the southernmost island in the Seychelles. It is part of the Aldabra group, in the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. Now uninhabited, this coral island covered in coconut trees was once home to the employees that worked on the coconut plantations. Renowned for the richness of its seabeds, Astove Atoll is now a top destination for fishing enthusiasts. It also attracts experienced divers, who visit the atoll to explore the “Astove Wall”, where the sea floor drops to a depth of about 40 metres. The wall is covered in coral and many fish and green sea turtles can be found there.

Near the Tanzanian coast, around 300 km south of Dar es Salaam, the island of Kilwa Kisiwani is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Occupied from the 9th century to the 11th century, it reached its heights in the 13th and 14th centuries. It was described by the Moroccan explorer Ibn Battouta as “one of the most beautiful cities in the world.” A former Swahili trading city, the island prospered from the trade of gold and ivory from the inland regions. The remains of its former port city cover a large part of the island. Those of its superb Great Mosque, the oldest mosque remaining on the coast of East Africa, are well worth a visit.

The second-largest island in the Zanzibar Archipelago, Pemba Island captivates, surprises and fascinates. You will be enchanted by the songs of the island women, on the beaches of fine sand, as they gather red algae at low tide. A unique sight! Mountainous with hills of fertile land and bearing the nickname ““the Green Island”, it is bordered by quiet shores, brimming with authenticity. Banana trees, coconut trees, clove trees, nutmeg trees… its lush vegetation ensures the local production of the spices that has made its reputation (primarily cloves but also nutmeg, vanilla, cinnamon, turmeric, pepper, etc.).

Renowned for its underwater world, Misali became a protected conservation area in 1998. So, it’s possible to admire its sea beds and swim there, but not to fish. If conditions allow, you’ll perhaps have the chance to see varied underwater fauna. Aboard the ship, they share their knowledge during lectures on a variety of topics such as the fauna and flora, the history of the great explorations, geology and climatology. Diving
During an introduction to scuba diving or a more advanced dive for holders of the necessary certifications (level 1 on yachting cruises and 2 on expedition cruises), explore the planet’s most beautiful underwater environments in the company of a PONANT diving instructor, as well as a local instructor when required by local legislation. They will ensure that your dives are conducted smoothly and safely: supervision of four certified divers at a time, evaluation of diving skills and experience, adherence to safety stops, zones and the maximum depth authorised.
A recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to the main diving instructor.

Nestled on a peaceful hilly area overlooking the ocean, this old spice garden houses approximately a hundred types of endemic plants, spices and a small museum dedicated to the history of spices in Seychelles since the 18th century. Enjoy a welcome drink before departing for a pleasant walk between vanilla plants, sugar canne, variety of spices, fruit trees, and tropical flowers.
Then take a break for sit down and delight a tasting session of the garden’s fruits.
Then you will reach in ten minutes the Takamaka distillery. You will learn more about Seychelles rum homemade secrets during the visit that will end with a tasting session.
Lunch will be served in a local restaurant. If time permitting, you will enjoy time a scenic drive at Victoria, the Mahe’s capital.

Your day will begin with a visit to his workshop, located on the outskirts of Victoria (about 30-minute drive). During this exclusive interview, he will welcome you into his colourful world by revealing his artistic journey through his vision, his style, and the innovative processes behind all his creations. You will also enjoy the privilege of sharing a small artistic demonstration and its learning. You will then be taken to Kaz Zanana Gallery & Café, the public gallery of the artist, located in Victoria within an old wooden house with typical Creole architecture and restored.
Then, lunch will be served in a Creole restaurant. At the end, you can take a walk through the centre of Victoria before heading back to your hotel in the early afternoon.

Departure from the hotel in the early morning to reach the Copolia trail, accompanied by your private guide. You will undertake an intimate hiking adventure through the lush nature of the island. First, you will go through a secondary forest of sand, cinnamon and rubber trees. As the trail ascends, you will observe numerous interesting endemic and indigenous plant species along with a diversed fauna of endemic birds such as the Seychelles Bulbul, the Blue Pigeon, and Sunbirds. The effort of your ascent will be rewarded with a magnificent view from the summit, providing a panorama of the east coast of Mahe, the Sainte Anne Marine National Park, and in the distance, the islands of Praslin and La Digue.

The Val de Près Estate is a national monument and a heritage site located in the southern part of Mahe Island. You will be warmly welcomed in the Creole manner with a welcome cocktail accompanied by traditional snacks consisting of "Coco Zerm", coconut, and dried fruits.
Accompanied by your guide, you will visit the plantation house "Gran Kaz" at the heart of the estate. Built in the 1870s, it bears witness to the history of the former owners through old photos, furniture, and other historical artifacts.

Day 1 - Zanzibar
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
From the pier, embark your mini-bus and take a 35km-drive to the south-east of Zanzibar Town to discover Zanzibar's first and only national park, the Jozani Forest Nature Reserve.
The reserve enjoys the largest portion of the Island's mature forest. With mangrove forests and saltmarshes, the area is an extremely rich mosaic of Zanzibar's diverse natural habitat, a haven for wildlife including the rare, endemic and endangered species. The forest hosts a sizeable population of the rare Red Colobus Monkey, found only on the main Island of Zanzibar. The park also shelters Sykes Monkey, Bush babies, Ader's duikers and Hyraxes.
Your guide will take you on a nature trail, lined with eucalyptus and mahogany trees, while explaining the medicinal properties of various plants. You will also learn more about the different animals, birds and reptiles that inhabit this tropical rainforest. Then, the mangrove boardwalk will take you over the swamps where you may have chance to see some of the tropical fishes and crabs between the mangrove roots.
You will have lunch in a unique waterfront restaurant on the shores of Pengwi Beach.
You will then take a drive to the village of Paje to visit the seaweed farm.

Day 1 – Zanzibar

You will depart for a spice tour in Zanzibar to understand why Zanzibar and spices are synonymous. In the 19th century, the Sultan of Oman introduced cloves to the island, which today is Zanzibar's main export product.
You will depart for the countryside, where you will have a look and taste of the spices grown mostly in off-road regions that are not easily accessible. You will stop in a luscious green clearing, where examples of spice plants are available for you to smell, taste, touch and see. You will get to see what the products you normally buy in packets or jars in supermarkets look and taste like fresh off the plant. The great variety of spices and plants grown here are used in food flavouring and preparation, cosmetics, dyes and traditional medicines. During the visit, you could enjoy a refreshment (coconut juice and fresh fruits).
You will then proceed to the village of Kizimbani, which will offer you a more authentic experience of local life in Zanzibar. Surrounded by traditional coral and wooden houses, local culture and a welcoming atmosphere, you will share a unique and intimate moment of interaction with the locals. They will teach you how to cook a typical dish from this unique and diverse cuisine as coconut rice, “chukuchuku” stew, cassava and banana.

The seaweed centre supports the residents of Paje through empowering the women and equipping them with skills to run the project. You will enjoy some freshly made seaweed juice before visiting the seaweed factory where you will have the opportunity to view the entire process from raw seaweed to finished soaps. Depending on the harvest season, you may see how seaweed is dried and be able to join in making some of the products.
You will have lunch in a world-famous, unique local restaurant, known for its iconic location, fabulous food and character, inspired by natural resources and a strong twist of Zanzibar.
Then you will be driven back to your hotel to enjoy some leisure time and refresh.
Following that, you will head to the beach for an authentic experience of initiation into the traditional Zanzibari dhow. This type of two-masted sailboat, characteristic of the Indian Ocean region, is traditionally used along the shores of Zanzibar and in other parts of East Africa. They are an integral part of the maritime life of the region and their graceful silhouette is often associated with the picturesque image of Zanzibar's coast.
Then, you will enjoy the twilight, glowing and warm, while savouring snacks and refreshments with your feet in the water.

Tanzania’s unit of currency is the Tanzania Shilling. The country has a cash-based economy. U. S dollars are widely accepted. Major credit cards are accepted on a very limited basis, mainly only in the largest shops, hotels, and lodges. ATMs are available in larger city centres like Dar Es Salam, but less in remote areas.

The climate can be extremely hot and humid in Zanzibar but also can be quite windy. It is therefore advisable to wear comfortable shoes, light layer clothing – preferable cotton, apply sunscreen/sun lotion and a shoulder cover or wrap is advisable.

For visits, it is preferable to wear appropriately discreet clothing, covering the upper body and legs below the knee.

Visitors to Tanzania are advised to avoid carrying plastic bags in their suitcases or hand luggage, except for the required “Ziploc type” bags specifically used to carry toiletries and other liquids of 100 millilitres or less through airport security screenings. These “Ziploc” bags must remain in the permanent possession of the traveller and not disposed of in Tanzania.

Dhow experience requires good physical condition. It may involve wading into knee-deep water to board the traditional boats using a step ladder over the side of the vessel.

Hand baggage: 1 piece with a maximum weight of 10 kg for which we have included 2 extra kg, so you are allowed to take a hand baggage of a maximum weight of 12 kg, and the sum of three dimensions shall not exceed 115 cm (45in) (55 x 40 x 25 cm) or (22 x 16 x 10 inches).
