And with good reason: here, nature has the power to enchant and has been creating extraordinary landscapes for thousands of years. During a brand-new 14-day expedition cruise aboard Le Boréal, in the heart of breathtaking panoramas, among other things, you will discover the hypnotic beauty of the cliffs of Makatea, a unique coral atoll with a fascinating history, admire the mysterious peaks of Moorea surrounded by crystal-clear waters, or take part in the incredible dance of the abundant marine fauna in Rangiroa, one of the most beautiful lagoons in the world.
The Windward Islands, the Tuamotus, the Marquesas... the mere mention of these archipelagos is enough to set you off on your journey and have you imagining the heavenly scenery that will soon appear before you. Polynesia is to be experienced and explored to discover lush nature in its raw state. The local guides, experts in this region, as well as a team of naturalists will lead you on hikes discovering the most beautiful landscapes in the area, like the secretive Anaho Bay on the island of Nuku Hiva, the Bay of Virgins on the island of Fatu Hiva, or the Ua Pou waterfall, a very special spot for swimming. On the way, admire the trails carpeted with flowers in stunning colours and let yourself be lulled by the song of local birds.
On the Polynesian beaches, another spectacle awaits. In Rangiroa, which is as famous for the beauty of its lagoon as for the diversity of its marine fauna, you will be able to admire a multitude of fish, grey sharks and even bottlenose dolphins at times, during snorkelling or diving sessions. On the island of Fakarava, the fine sandy beach stretches out in a long wild expanse, surrounding the world’s second-largest lagoon, which is truly an invitation to lose yourself in thought.
On Makatea, the singularity of the island is simply striking. The limestone cliffs, standing up to 100 metres (328 feet) high, rise magnificently from the crystal-clear waters, creating a unique karst landscape. The roaring forces of the planet may well enabled the increased height of this coral atoll when Moorea was formed, yet this fascinating panorama has also been marked by human hands. The island’s mining past and phosphate production have left deep marks, including some chasms, now covered by dense tropical forest, plunging over 45 metres (148 feet) deep. In this labyrinth of rocks and vegetation, inhabited by fewer than 80 people, admire the underwater caves and the breathtaking viewpoints.
The serenity that emanates from Polynesia is intrinsically tied to its unique culture. On your trip, discover the delicate island arts and crafts, as illustrated by the tifaifai, the traditional paintings or the musical instruments. On Rangiroa, the expertise associated with pearl cultivation is revealed during a visit to a pearl farm. In the Marquesas, travel back in time via the Tikis at the sacred me'ae archaeological site at Puama'u on the island of Hiva Oa or via the ‘petroglyphs’ or ancient rock art on Fatu Hiva, these representations engraved in the rock and depicting men, gods, animals... Ports of call, visited sites, outings and landings will depend on weather conditions, winds and the state of the sea. These can force a change of plans at any time. The Captain and the Expedition Leader may at any time cancel or stop any activity, or even modify the itinerary. The final itinerary will be confirmed by the Captain, who will take into account the touristic quality of the sites and above all, the safety of the passengers. His decision will be based on advice from experts and authorities.
Travelling to isolated regions is an exhilarating experience. In remote areas, please remember that you are far from modern hospitals with full medical facilities, thus evacuation is extremely expensive. In your hand luggage, remember to bring any medicines that you need, and possibly a small spare bag of toiletries (in case of delay in the delivery of your baggage by the airline). Remember to always have your travel documents with you in case you need them: hotel vouchers, cruise vouchers, return flight tickets... Never leave them in your hold luggage.
All our cabins have a safe. We recommend not to go ashore with valuable jewellery.

Diving - Expedition Cruise
Supervision of the dives
Your dives will be led by your PONANT instructor. He will take care of your safety and that all goes smoothly. On some diving sites, as in natural reserves or if the local regulations require it, a local guide will escort the diving.
Level required for scuba diving on this cruise
The minimum level required for scuba diving on this cruise is 2 star CMAS or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent). The certification card, the diving log book and a recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to our main diving instructor.
Process of the dives (certified divers)
The instructor reserves the right to check divers’ ability for maximum safety. As we will dive in remote places, the dives will be done without decompression stop. A safety stop of 3 minutes at 5 metres will be mandatory. The depth that can be reached will depend on the certification of the divers:
- For those with PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certificate (or equivalent), the maximum depth can be up to 25 metres.
- If two PADI Advanced Open Water Divers (or equivalent) wish to dive together independently, they must have a briefing first. They must have dive computers and are allowed to go to a maximum depth of 20 metres.
Duration of the dives
The diving activity lasts from 2 to 3 hours, which includes the journey to the diving site and the diving. This duration may vary according to the site, the level of divers, weather conditions and the number of participants. For experienced divers, the duration of dives varies between 35 and 60 minutes depending on the site, the diver’s experience and consumption.

Fauna and flora of the Pacific Ocean
The fauna of the Pacific Sea is very varied. During the various dives, divers can observe various species of benthic fauna such as napoleon fish, raccoon butterfly fish, and pelagic fauna such as manta rays, gray reef sharks, dolphin fish as well as endemic wildlife such as different soft corals.

Entering Hatiheu Bay, you will quickly make out the statue of the Virgin, which, standing more than 300 metres high, overlooks this beautiful little village. Located on the north of Nuku Hiva Island, this locality is dominated by impressive basalt pitons. In the past, the fear of tsunamis and attacks from other clans led the tribes to settle in the interior of the valleys. As a consequence, many archaeological sites remain preserved and make for interesting excursions. You will find many of the ceremonial plazas, called tohua, notably those of Kamuihei and Hikokua where you will be able to observe several reconstructed traditional houses.

Taiohae Bay welcomes you in a sumptuous setting. Your ship will drop anchor a few kilometres from the black sandy beaches, nestled between majestic valleys. You will find yourself in the middle of the main village on the island of Nuku Hiva. You can follow the footpaths on foot or in an all-terrain vehicle. From the top of the hill of Mount Muake, a breathtaking panorama allows you to clearly identify the rocky islands that emerge on either side of the bay. Further on, the site of Piki Vehine shows its tikis, sacred statues used for religious practices. In addition, do not miss the Notre Dame des Marquises cathedral. Its distinguishing feature is that is was built using stone taken from the six Marquesa Islands.

In the valley, you will be able to spot some tohua, former sacred sites, as well as the many burial caves lost in the island’s abundant tropical forest. During your port of call, you’ll be able to discover the Maison Grelet, a museum that houses remarkable wooden sculptures and local works of art. Right in front of you, the village’s artisans will demonstrate how they make tapa, a bark cloth obtained through the technique of beating layers of wood, and explain the manufacturing processes of umu hei, a bouquet garni made from a delicious mix of fragrances.

Glass-bottom boat
Get acquainted with the coral gardens and tropical fish of Rangiroa during this scenic glass-bottom boat tour. Depart the pier aboard a glass-bottom boat, then slowly float over the huge coral heads that cluster in shallow areas inside the Tiputa Channel.
Along the way, you will see a colourful world full of parrot fish, butterfly fish, and surgeon fish through the large windows. You may also encounter black-tipped sharks, and catch a glimpse of the majestic Napoleon fish. During the tour, your Polynesian boat crew will attract the fish directly under the glass panels to make it easy for you to observe and photography them.
A cover will provide protection from the sun and eliminate glare, enabling you to take home great photographs.
Following your tour, you will be transferred back to the pier.

This is not a snorkelling tour. This tour takes place at Motu Nui Nui. Marine life is widely present in this region; however, sightings cannot be guaranteed and tickets are nonrefundable should a sighting not occur. The Tuamotu's are very remote islands. Black pearl farm
Explore Rangiroa's black pearl industry and learn about pearl cultivation during this memorable visit to the Black Pearl Farm.
Depart the pier for a ride along Rangiroa's main road, past the airport and on to the Black Pearl Farm. Most pearl farms are small-sized, and the number of workers at this farm is quite representative of the farms in this region.
Upon arrival at the farm, the staff will give you a brief lecture about the farming and production of black pearls. You will learn about the chronology and evolution of the industry, and how oysters are selected, grown, and then grafted for production.
Following the lecture, you will proceed to the work sheds where oysters are sorted and cleaned, and watch a grafter at work as he skilfully plies his trade.
Following your visit, you will reboard your minivan for the return ride to the pier.

Snorkelling Rangiroa's aquarium
Rangiroa's spectacular and diverse marine life is yours to discover during this scenic and memorable ride in the Tuamotu Islands.
Depart the pier via local boat for the ride to Motu Nui Nui, a natural, open-water aquarium renowned for its marine life. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety instructions, then enter the water to explore your surroundings. Along the way, you will observe an abundance of colourful fish and coral and marine life. Your guide will offer assistance in the water and throughout the tour.
During the tour, you will also have an opportunity to hand-feed the fish. Following your snorkelling session, you will be transferred back to the pier.

From Hakahetau to Hakahau
Recognizable by its famous peaks, set off to discover Ua Pou during this 4WD adventure. You will visit the North Coast and stop at the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints such as Hakanahinui Bay, also called Shark Bay, the Donkey Plateau, overlooking the legendary Ua Pou airport and the main Hakahetau village.
Your guide will comment on each stop and show you around Hakahau, its church, its port and its craft center. This last stop will allow you to meet the island's artisans who will have traveled from other valleys early in the morning. You will discover the specialty of the island: flowered stone, its real name Phonolite with garnets. Among the 'umete' (bowls), sculptures and tiki in flowered stones of all sizes, you can also find penu (pillons) with a contemporary shape or even seed necklaces, pandanus hats...

Hike to the Vaiea waterfall
Departing from the Hakahetau wharf, accompanied by your guide, take the trail to the Vaiea waterfall through dense forest shaded by fruit trees.The Vaiea waterfall is a half-hour's walk from the village of Hakahetau, stopping at the Te Tahuna site for a short visit.
The walk continues on a shaded track with a slight gradient. The last part of the trail is made up and follows the watercourse for 300 m before arriving at a magnificent basin opening onto a lush landscape. The waterfall is on a human scale, falling some ten meters, the water is refreshing and the vegetation exuberant.

Aakapa and Kamuihei
Departing from the dock, board your all-terrain vehicle heading west. You will pass the black sand beach of Hatiheu before starting your climb towards your first stop and its view of the bay and... your ship. While following the coast, you continue your route towards your second stop, the viewpoint over Aakapa Bay, its coconut grove and its photos. A magical place where photography enthusiasts will be delighted...
You then go back down to the village of Aakapa to discover the small church located in its center. After enjoying this visual spectacle, you will take the road again to reach the archaeological site of Kamuihei just outside the village of Hatiheu. Your guide will take you into the heart of this exceptional site between lush vegetation, banyan trees, petroglyphs, platforms and other sculptures just waiting to be admired. Visit of Taipivai valley
Nuku Hiva’s spectacular beauty is yours to discover during this off-road adventure in the Taipivai Valley.
Depart the pier for the ride to the Taipivai Valley, one of the richest archaeological sites in the Marquesas Islands. The Taipivai Valley is a location made famous by the American writer and former sailor, Herman Melville (1819-1891), who deserted his ship and hid in this valley. Captured by indigenous natives, he lived in the Taipivai Valley for three weeks, a period during which he observed their way of life. This experience was the inspiration for his first novel. En route to the Taipivai Valley, you will ride through the island’s interior along a steep trail lined with lush flora and vegetation, then traverse exquisite mountain terrain.
Along the way, you will enjoy many opportunities to take magnificent photographs, as you stop several times to take in spectacular vistas of the coastline, bays, and valleys. At one particular stop, you will see your ship anchored in the Bay of Taihoae. Next, you will drive through Taipivai’s small agricultural villages, then proceed to a long stretch of beach at the end of the village. Here, you will stop again to admire splendid vistas of the valley and surrounding mountains.

Discover the giant tiki
Also known as "Lipona", in reference to the green valley in which it is located, the archaeological site of me'ae in Puama'u is undoubtedly the most distinguished site on the island of Hiva Oa. Its location near a stream, a stone's throw from the only peak (Toea) in the valley, makes it a place full of charm. It is also a renowned site given the organization of its structures and especially the presence of statues considered to be the largest of the marquises.
After your disembarkation by tender, you will take a 30-minute walk to reach the site. Your guide will accompany you to provide you with all his knowledge of local history and culture. At the end of this visit, you can return to the beach and enjoy the place.

Scenic drive to Hanavave
Fatu Hiva, the most remote island of the inhabited Marquesan islands offers green and lush vegetation with sheer, rocky landscapes. There are only two villages on the island connected by one road (17 km). The scenic 4x4 ride from Omoa to Hanavave offers numerous photo opportunities over dramatic landscapes, coastline and deep gorges and valleys.
On arrival in Hanavave you will have some free time to stretch your legs and explore the village and take more photos of one of the most picturesque locations in the Marquesas, the iconic Bay of Virgins. The bay was named by Catholic missionaries, who said that the phallic shaped stone outcrops were formed as veiled virgins.

Omoa petroglyphs walk
Set in a luscious native forest within a picturesque valley is an ancient ceremonial site where Marquesans prayed to their gods to provide abundant water for their crops. Trekking up to the site you will pass an old chief's paepae upon which is a small tiki carved in the famous ke'etu stone of the islands.
Ascending inland you will see a number of sites whose functions will be explained to you by your on-board guide. Finally, you will arrive on the crest of a ridge featuring important petroglyphs, or rock art. The images depict anthropomorphic images of men, concentric circle eyes of magical tikis and even an ancient sailing canoe. However, the most impressive petroglyph and one of the largest in the Marquesas is that of the famous paoa, which looks like a huge tuna fish, carved into the rock.
See also the grinding, polishing and sharpening stones used in ancestral working of adzes and other tools. Enjoy the magnificent scenery surrounding the site as sharp mountain peaks pierce the sky. This excursion provides a wonderful chance to visit the interior of Fatu Hiva's beautiful Omoa Valley.

Welcome to Hapatoni
Located on Tahuata, the smallest of the inhabited islands of the Marquesas, the village of Hapatoni will open its doors to you on the occasion of this memorable stopover. After a welcome on the quay, you can take the paved "royal road" which was built on the dike built on the orders of Queen Vaekehu II in the 19th century. This alignment, planted by the elders, offers certain protection against the assaults of the ocean and gives it a romantic charm.
Strolling along the seaside, you will reach the church of the Holy Heart of Mary, built on the old tohua of the Hapatoni valley. Half day to Teahatea beach
Depart the ship by small local boats across the beautiful UNESCO biosphere reserve of Fakarava to the white sand beach of Teahatea just after the Garuae Pass.
The boat is (8 m) 50 long, special for excursions. It is equipped with all safety equipment and with a covered top and sides. The boat ride takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the weather conditions. You will have 2-2 ½ hours of free time to relax on the beach, enjoy a swim in the crystal clear lagoon or go snorkelling. E-Bike tour of Rotoava & the North shore

Discover Makatea
The history of Makatea is marked by the exploitation, for fifty years, of its subsoil, which is very rich in phosphate. The quarries were exploited with the help of local workers and foreign workers and the transportation of the ore was ensured by the first and only railway in French Polynesia to the export ports.
During your visit to the island, on foot or by car, you will live a unique cultural experience, discover the remains of this past industrial activity and will be able to disembark at the old port, see the railway installations , see the abandoned quarries, admire magnificent views from the lookouts and maybe even see the tunnels and caves.

Whale watching expedition
From July through October humpback whales come to Moorea's waters to rest, mate, give birth, and nurse their calves.
Dr. Michael Poole's team will take you on this exciting and educational boat-based eco-tour where you can observe humpback whales in their natural environment, the ocean. If conditions are favorable (a calm sea; calm whale behavior) and participants who are strong snorkeler, then you may also snorkel in the water to observe the whales. You can also bask in the dramatic beauty of Moorea and learn about its geology.
Whales are found during 95% of these tours, and you may also see schools of dolphins. The primary objective will be to find and observe humpback whales, and if possible, to slip into the water to observe them underwater.
Getting into the water is not obligatory or always possible, so people who simply want to observe whales from the boat are also welcome. In February 2019 Dr. Poole and his research and conservation efforts on humpback whales were featured on Animal Planet and ABC TV. His team operates with the utmost respect in the presence of these incredible giants. A guarantee cannot be given that whales will be found nor that it will be possible to get into the water, but the team will do their best.

Ocean addict whale expedition
From July through October humpback whales come to Moorea’s waters to rest, mate, give birth, and nurse their calves.
Observe humpback whales in their natural environment, the ocean. If conditions are favorable (a calm sea; calm whale behavior) and participants who are strong snorkeler, then you may also snorkel in the water to observe the whales. Whales are found during 95% of these tours, and you may also see schools of dolphins. The primary objective will be to find and observe humpback whales, and if possible, to slip into the water to observe them underwater. Getting into the water is not mandatory or always possible, so people who simply want to observe whales from the boat are also welcome. Guarantee cannot be given that whales will be found nor that it will be possible to get into the water, but the team will do their best.

Slow paced belvedere & pineapple valley by e-Bike
Enjoy a slow-paced bicycle guided tour to Belvedere and the Pineapple Valley. Your guide will commence the tour by giving you an introductory course on how to use the simple E-bike settings. Choose the setting that fit your fitness level, from no assistance to Turbo and off you go visiting the beautiful Pineapple Island.
At every stop the guide will provide you with a multitude of details about the sites and their history. Visit Cooks and Opunohu bays, stop at the Marae (archaeological sites) and Belvedere Lookout point. Pedal through the pineapple plantations and stop for a jam tasting at the Agricultural High school. Your e-motor assisted mountain bike will make it really easy to complete the tour and even the less active guest will feel like Le Tour de France winner.

Lagoon discovery with snorkeling
Experience the beauty of Cook's and Opunohu Bays from above and below the water during this snorkeling and beach adventure aboard a modern covered boat.
Depart the pier aboard a comfortable and modern boat featuring covered areas designed to protect you from the direct rays of the sun. As you cruise along these majestic bays, your captain will inform you about the legends, geography, and flora and fauna of Moorea.
Next, you will continue on to a gorgeous sandy islet surrounded by transparent turquoise waters that are shallow enough to walk comfortably in the sea. Upon arrival, you will have a rare opportunity to feed the awaiting rays; they will gracefully glide around you in exchange for a piece of fish. Your tour will conclude with a stop at another uninhabited islet nearby. Here, you will be served refreshments and have an opportunity to explore the beach and swim. You will also be invited to go snorkeling in water 6-10 feet (2-3 meters) deep. Snorkeling is performed in the shallow waters off the boat, providing an excellent opportunity for both experienced snorkeler and beginners. The boat's ladders extend deep into the water, making it easy to embark and disembark the craft.

Waverunner adventure*
Experience Moorea's idyllic coastal beauty> in an exciting new way during this fun-filled waverunner adventure. Depart the pier for the boat transfer to the wave runner center.
Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and simple operating instructions from your guide, then embark your wave runner and begin your ride. Led by your guide, you will cruise either along the west coast of Moorea or through the spectacular Opunohu Bay or Cook's Bay.
Along the way, a stop will be made at Motu Ono for an opportunity to feed elegant and graceful rays as they swim around you in the shallow water. Fresh fruit and beverages will then be served on the motu.
Following your visit, you will be transferred to the waverunner center, then back to the pier.

Aito Off-Road safari
Explore the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created during this scenic, off-road island safari via off-road vehicle.
Depart the pier in an off-road vehicle for a journey inside the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created. En route, you will discover the heart of a huge pineapple plantation inside the island's deepest valley. Moorea, Polynesian's Green Garden, is renowned for its Agricultural School, which receives students from all the outer islands. A stop will be made here to sample some homemade jam. Ice cream and local fruit juices will also be available for purchase.
Your guide will then drive you across a large plantation filled with vanilla, bananas, grapefruits, and oranges, and will acquaint you with the island's diverse flora and fauna. Next, you will continue to an open-air temple, or marae.
After a stop to learn about the Polynesian culture, you will ascend to the top of Belvedere lookout for spectacular vistas over Cook's and Opunohu Bays. You will then descend that mountain and proceed to Magic Mountain, where a little path surrounded by grapefruit, lemon, and orange trees opens up to a panoramic view stretching across Opunohu Bay, the lagoon, and the sea.
Your tour will conclude with a stop at the Fruit Juice Factory and Distillery of Moorea to sample their liquors. Following your visit, you will re-board the off-road vehicle for your return ride to the pier.

Aquablue – Underwater walk
Explore Moorea's splendid marine life in a unique new way during this underwater walking and snorkeling adventure.
Depart the pier for the drive to the Intercontinental Moorea Resort & Spa. Upon arrival, you will meet your instructor, then be outfitted with your wet suit and water shoes before embarking on a 10-minute boat ride inside the majestic lagoon of Moorea. The crew will anchor the boat off the coast of Motu Fareone or inside the lagoon in Papetoai (depending on sea and weather conditions). Your certified diving instructor will explain your safety and diving instructions, help you put on your helmet, and assist you with descending the ladder into the crystal-clear water.
You will then commence your 30-minute underwater adventure at a depth of 12 feet. Along the way, you will see an abundance of fish that include triggerfish, butterfly fish, groupers, and parrotfish, swimming amid beautiful coral heads. Stingrays are also plentiful at this dive spot. While your guide feeds them, you will be able to take a closer look at these unusual ocean denizens.
Following your tour, you will be returned to the pier.

The helmet, while heavy, is placed on your head as you enter the water and taken off as you exit. You will remain connected to the boat's air supply via an air hose. Catamaran sail in Moorea
Explore Moorea's beauty from above and below the water during this relaxing sailing and snorkeling excursion aboard a catamaran.
Depart the pier aboard the beautiful, 43-foot catamaran, and sail to Moorea's northern coast, then on to a pair of French Polynesian's most beautiful bays: Cook's and Opunohu. En route, you can sit back and relax, or savor a fruit juice under the canopy astern. Upon reaching Opunohu Bay, the captain will drop anchor in the clear blue waters of the lagoon. After receiving your safety and snorkeling instructions, you will have the chance to discover the underwater tiki place and the marine life residing there, including coral formations and reef fish.
Afterwards, you will set sail toward Cook's Bay before returning to your ship. The well-equipped catamaran offers facilities that include a rest room and shower, and a shaded area with comfortable seats.

Moorea by catajets*
Get an up-close look at Tahiti's idyllic beauty from above and below sea level during this catajet and snorkeling adventure in Moorea.
Depart the pier for the boat transfer to the base. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions from your guide, then embark your two-seat catajet for a 1.5-hour ride in an idyllic lagoon on Moorea. Led by your guide at an easy speed, you will take in panoramic views of the East Coast and Cook and Opunohu Bays, or the West Coast (weather permitting).
Next, a stop will be made for snorkeling in the shallow waters. After putting on your mask, fins and snorkel, you will explore the beauty of the tropical fish and coral formations. Your adventure will continue with a stop on a sand bar, where you will have an opportunity to play with stingrays.
Following refreshments, you will return to the catajet base, then be transferred back to the pier.

BBQ on Motu & snorkelling
Your boat will take you through the beautiful waters of Cook's and Opunohu Bays whilst enjoying the scenery of the north coast of Moorea. Arrive at the Stingray spot for a moment to swim with these graceful and elegant creatures.
From here you will continue to the private motu where a BBQ lunch awaits you. Water, beer, sodas and soft drinks available with lunch. You will also see the preparation of Poisson Cru with Coconut Milk as well as demonstrations of Coconuts and Pareo tying.

ATV guided tour*
Moorea's spectacular valleys, bays, and vistas are yours to discover during this guided ATV tour through the island.
Depart the pier in Cook's Bay for the brief transfer via minivan to the Hilton Moorea Lagoon & Spa, where the ATVs are based. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions. Then, begin your ATV ride. Your guide will lead you along the road to Belvedere lookout for magnificent views and photo opportunities over Cook's Bay, Opunohu Bay, and Mt. Rotui.
You will also venture across the valley, through a river, and past pineapple fields, and stop at an ancient open-air temple, or marae, to learn about the Polynesian culture. Afterwards, you will continue on to the Moorea Agricultural School, then ride across this large plantation and down to the Paopao Valley.
From here, you will take the main road en route to the Fruit Juice Factory, where you will enjoy a brief stop. Then, ride back to the Hilton Lagoon & Spa.

Whale watching with Manahau
From August to November, Polynesia is one of the few places in the world where you can meet humpback whales and swim with them in their natural environment.
Accompanied by your local guide, take advantage of our experience to experiment unforgettable encounters with humpback whales and other cetaceans. Diving
During an introduction to scuba diving or a more advanced dive for holders of the necessary certifications (level 1 on yachting cruises and 2 on expedition cruises), explore the planet’s most beautiful underwater environments in the company of a PONANT diving instructor, as well as a local instructor when required by local legislation. They will ensure that your dives are conducted smoothly and safely: supervision of four certified divers at a time, evaluation of diving skills and experience, adherence to safety stops, zones and the maximum depth authorised.
A recent medical certificate (less than 12 months) must be presented at the beginning of the cruise to the main diving instructor.

Day 2 - Papeete

During this afternoon dedicated to the Scents & Culture of Fenua, get comfortable on board an air-conditioned van, heading for the Cosmetology Laboratory located about an hour away.
On the way, drive through the city of Papeete and its suburbs to gradually enter the wilder nature of the South coast of the island of Tahiti. Once at the Laboratory, discover the real Monoi de Tahiti, a natural blend of virgin coconut oil and Tiare flowers used by the Polynesian people for over 2000 years. From the flower on its shrub to the bottling, discover the whole manufacturing process and learn about its multiple uses.
Then head for the Museum of Tahiti and its Islands. Enter in a completely renovated, modern and interactive museum that reopened its doors to the public in early 2023. A real tribute to Polynesian culture with its 1400 m² (15,069.46 sq ft) exhibition room and its different areas to visit freely. Ancient canoes, art objects, imposing sculptures, utensils of daily life and even some exceptional pieces lent by the Quai Branly Museum, the Cambridge Museum and the British Museum... so many witnesses of the cultural wealth of our islands.

Day 3 - Papeete
Check out after an included breakfast and you will be transferred to the city center, to discover downtown Papeete.
Join the market in an air-conditioned van, stroll from stand to stand to meet the local vendors and artisans. Get acquainted with the coral gardens and tropical fish of Rangiroa during this scenic glass-bottom boat tour. Depart the pier aboard a glass-bottom boat, then slowly float over the huge coral heads that cluster in shallow areas inside the Tiputa Channel.
Along the way, you will see a colourful world full of parrot fish, butterfly fish, and surgeon fish through the large windows. You may also encounter black-tipped sharks, and catch a glimpse of the majestic Napoleon fish. Black pearl farm
Explore Rangiroa's black pearl industry and learn about pearl cultivation during this memorable visit to the Black Pearl Farm.
Depart the pier for a ride along Rangiroa's main road, past the airport and on to the Black Pearl Farm. Most pearl farms are small-sized, and the number of workers at this farm is quite representative of the farms in this region.
Upon arrival at the farm, the staff will give you a brief lecture about the farming and production of black pearls. You will learn about the chronology and evolution of the industry, and how oysters are selected, grown, and then grafted for production.
Following the lecture, you will proceed to the work sheds where oysters are sorted and cleaned, and watch a grafter at work as he skilfully plies his trade.
Following your visit, you will reboard your minivan for the return ride to the pier.

Snorkelling Rangiroa's aquarium
Rangiroa's spectacular and diverse marine life is yours to discover during this scenic and memorable ride in the Tuamotu Islands.
Depart the pier via local boat for the ride to Motu Nui Nui, a natural, open-water aquarium renowned for its marine life. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety instructions, then enter the water to explore your surroundings. Along the way, you will observe an abundance of colourful fish and coral and marine life. Your guide will offer assistance in the water and throughout the tour.
During the tour, you will also have an opportunity to hand-feed the fish. Following your snorkelling session, you will be transferred back to the pier.

From Hakahetau to Hakahau
Recognizable by its famous peaks, set off to discover Ua Pou during this 4WD adventure. You will visit the North Coast and stop at the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints such as Hakanahinui Bay, also called Shark Bay, the Donkey Plateau, overlooking the legendary Ua Pou airport and the main Hakahetau village.
Your guide will comment on each stop and show you around Hakahau, its church, its port and its craft center. This last stop will allow you to meet the island's artisans who will have traveled from other valleys early in the morning. You will discover the specialty of the island: flowered stone, its real name Phonolite with garnets. Among the 'umete' (bowls), sculptures and tiki in flowered stones of all sizes, you can also find penu (pillons) with a contemporary shape or even seed necklaces, pandanus hats...

Hike to the Vaiea waterfall
Departing from the Hakahetau wharf, accompanied by your guide, take the trail to the Vaiea waterfall through dense forest shaded by fruit trees.The Vaiea waterfall is a half-hour's walk from the village of Hakahetau, stopping at the Te Tahuna site for a short visit.
The walk continues on a shaded track with a slight gradient. The last part of the trail is made up and follows the watercourse for 300 m before arriving at a magnificent basin opening onto a lush landscape. The waterfall is on a human scale, falling some ten meters, the water is refreshing and the vegetation exuberant.

Aakapa and Kamuihei
Departing from the dock, board your all-terrain vehicle heading west. You will pass the black sand beach of Hatiheu before starting your climb towards your first stop and its view of the bay and... your ship. While following the coast, you continue your route towards your second stop, the viewpoint over Aakapa Bay, its coconut grove and its photos. A magical place where photography enthusiasts will be delighted...
You then go back down to the village of Aakapa to discover the small church located in its center. After enjoying this visual spectacle, you will take the road again to reach the archaeological site of Kamuihei just outside the village of Hatiheu. Your guide will take you into the heart of this exceptional site between lush vegetation, banyan trees, petroglyphs, platforms and other sculptures just waiting to be admired. Visit of Taipivai valley
Nuku Hiva’s spectacular beauty is yours to discover during this off-road adventure in the Taipivai Valley.
Depart the pier for the ride to the Taipivai Valley, one of the richest archaeological sites in the Marquesas Islands. The Taipivai Valley is a location made famous by the American writer and former sailor, Herman Melville (1819-1891), who deserted his ship and hid in this valley. Captured by indigenous natives, he lived in the Taipivai Valley for three weeks, a period during which he observed their way of life. This experience was the inspiration for his first novel. En route to the Taipivai Valley, you will ride through the island’s interior along a steep trail lined with lush flora and vegetation, then traverse exquisite mountain terrain.
Along the way, you will enjoy many opportunities to take magnificent photographs, as you stop several times to take in spectacular vistas of the coastline, bays, and valleys. At one particular stop, you will see your ship anchored in the Bay of Taihoae. Next, you will drive through Taipivai’s small agricultural villages, then proceed to a long stretch of beach at the end of the village. Here, you will stop again to admire splendid vistas of the valley and surrounding mountains.

Discover the giant tiki
Also known as "Lipona", in reference to the green valley in which it is located, the archaeological site of me'ae in Puama'u is undoubtedly the most distinguished site on the island of Hiva Oa. Its location near a stream, a stone's throw from the only peak (Toea) in the valley, makes it a place full of charm. It is also a renowned site given the organization of its structures and especially the presence of statues considered to be the largest of the marquises.
After your disembarkation by tender, you will take a 30-minute walk to reach the site. Your guide will accompany you to provide you with all his knowledge of local history and culture. At the end of this visit, you can return to the beach and enjoy the place.

Scenic drive to Hanavave
Fatu Hiva, the most remote island of the inhabited Marquesan islands offers green and lush vegetation with sheer, rocky landscapes. There are only two villages on the island connected by one road (17 km). The scenic 4x4 ride from Omoa to Hanavave offers numerous photo opportunities over dramatic landscapes, coastline and deep gorges and valleys.
On arrival in Hanavave you will have some free time to stretch your legs and explore the village and take more photos of one of the most picturesque locations in the Marquesas, the iconic Bay of Virgins. The bay was named by Catholic missionaries, who said that the phallic shaped stone outcrops were formed as veiled virgins.

Omoa petroglyphs walk
Set in a luscious native forest within a picturesque valley is an ancient ceremonial site where Marquesans prayed to their gods to provide abundant water for their crops. Trekking up to the site you will pass an old chief's paepae upon which is a small tiki carved in the famous ke'etu stone of the islands.
Ascending inland you will see a number of sites whose functions will be explained to you by your on-board guide. Finally, you will arrive on the crest of a ridge featuring important petroglyphs, or rock art. The images depict anthropomorphic images of men, concentric circle eyes of magical tikis and even an ancient sailing canoe. However, the most impressive petroglyph and one of the largest in the Marquesas is that of the famous paoa, which looks like a huge tuna fish, carved into the rock.
See also the grinding, polishing and sharpening stones used in ancestral working of adzes and other tools. Enjoy the magnificent scenery surrounding the site as sharp mountain peaks pierce the sky. This excursion provides a wonderful chance to visit the interior of Fatu Hiva's beautiful Omoa Valley.

Welcome to Hapatoni
Located on Tahuata, the smallest of the inhabited islands of the Marquesas, the village of Hapatoni will open its doors to you on the occasion of this memorable stopover. After a welcome on the quay, you can take the paved "royal road" which was built on the dike built on the orders of Queen Vaekehu II in the 19th century. This alignment, planted by the elders, offers certain protection against the assaults of the ocean and gives it a romantic charm.
Strolling along the seaside, you will reach the church of the Holy Heart of Mary, built on the old tohua of the Hapatoni valley. Half day to Teahatea beach
Depart the ship by small local boats across the beautiful UNESCO biosphere reserve of Fakarava to the white sand beach of Teahatea just after the Garuae Pass.
The boat is (8 m) 50 long, special for excursions. It is equipped with all safety equipment and with a covered top and sides. The boat ride takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the weather conditions. You will have 2-2 ½ hours of free time to relax on the beach, enjoy a swim in the crystal clear lagoon or go snorkelling. E-Bike tour of Rotoava & the North shore

Discover Makatea
The history of Makatea is marked by the exploitation, for fifty years, of its subsoil, which is very rich in phosphate. The quarries were exploited with the help of local workers and foreign workers and the transportation of the ore was ensured by the first and only railway in French Polynesia to the export ports.
During your visit to the island, on foot or by car, you will live a unique cultural experience, discover the remains of this past industrial activity and will be able to disembark at the old port, see the railway installations , see the abandoned quarries, admire magnificent views from the lookouts and maybe even see the tunnels and caves.

Whale watching expedition
From July through October humpback whales come to Moorea's waters to rest, mate, give birth, and nurse their calves.
Dr. Michael Poole's team will take you on this exciting and educational boat-based eco-tour where you can observe humpback whales in their natural environment, the ocean. If conditions are favorable (a calm sea; calm whale behavior) and participants who are strong snorkeler, then you may also snorkel in the water to observe the whales. You can also bask in the dramatic beauty of Moorea and learn about its geology.
Whales are found during 95% of these tours, and you may also see schools of dolphins. The primary objective will be to find and observe humpback whales, and if possible, to slip into the water to observe them underwater.
Getting into the water is not obligatory or always possible, so people who simply want to observe whales from the boat are also welcome. In February 2019 Dr. Poole and his research and conservation efforts on humpback whales were featured on Animal Planet and ABC TV. His team operates with the utmost respect in the presence of these incredible giants. A guarantee cannot be given that whales will be found nor that it will be possible to get into the water, but the team will do their best.

Ocean addict whale expedition

Slow paced belvedere & pineapple valley by e-Bike
Enjoy a slow-paced bicycle guided tour to Belvedere and the Pineapple Valley. Your guide will commence the tour by giving you an introductory course on how to use the simple E-bike settings. Choose the setting that fit your fitness level, from no assistance to Turbo and off you go visiting the beautiful Pineapple Island.
At every stop the guide will provide you with a multitude of details about the sites and their history. Visit Cooks and Opunohu bays, stop at the Marae (archaeological sites) and Belvedere Lookout point. Pedal through the pineapple plantations and stop for a jam tasting at the Agricultural High school. Your e-motor assisted mountain bike will make it really easy to complete the tour and even the less active guest will feel like Le Tour de France winner.

Lagoon discovery with snorkeling
Experience the beauty of Cook's and Opunohu Bays from above and below the water during this snorkeling and beach adventure aboard a modern covered boat.
Depart the pier aboard a comfortable and modern boat featuring covered areas designed to protect you from the direct rays of the sun. As you cruise along these majestic bays, your captain will inform you about the legends, geography, and flora and fauna of Moorea.
Next, you will continue on to a gorgeous sandy islet surrounded by transparent turquoise waters that are shallow enough to walk comfortably in the sea. Upon arrival, you will have a rare opportunity to feed the awaiting rays; they will gracefully glide around you in exchange for a piece of fish. Your tour will conclude with a stop at another uninhabited islet nearby. Here, you will be served refreshments and have an opportunity to explore the beach and swim. You will also be invited to go snorkeling in water 6-10 feet (2-3 meters) deep. Snorkeling is performed in the shallow waters off the boat, providing an excellent opportunity for both experienced snorkeler and beginners. The boat's ladders extend deep into the water, making it easy to embark and disembark the craft.

Waverunner adventure*
Experience Moorea's idyllic coastal beauty> in an exciting new way during this fun-filled waverunner adventure. Depart the pier for the boat transfer to the wave runner center.
Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and simple operating instructions from your guide, then embark your wave runner and begin your ride. Led by your guide, you will cruise either along the west coast of Moorea or through the spectacular Opunohu Bay or Cook's Bay.
Along the way, a stop will be made at Motu Ono for an opportunity to feed elegant and graceful rays as they swim around you in the shallow water. Fresh fruit and beverages will then be served on the motu.

Aito Off-Road safari
Explore the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created during this scenic, off-road island safari via off-road vehicle.
Depart the pier in an off-road vehicle for a journey inside the volcanic crater from which Moorea was created. En route, you will discover the heart of a huge pineapple plantation inside the island's deepest valley. Moorea, Polynesian's Green Garden, is renowned for its Agricultural School, which receives students from all the outer islands. A stop will be made here to sample some homemade jam. Ice cream and local fruit juices will also be available for purchase.
Your guide will then drive you across a large plantation filled with vanilla, bananas, grapefruits, and oranges, and will acquaint you with the island's diverse flora and fauna. Next, you will continue to an open-air temple, or marae.
After a stop to learn about the Polynesian culture, you will ascend to the top of Belvedere lookout for spectacular vistas over Cook's and Opunohu Bays. You will then descend that mountain and proceed to Magic Mountain, where a little path surrounded by grapefruit, lemon, and orange trees opens up to a panoramic view stretching across Opunohu Bay, the lagoon, and the sea.
Your tour will conclude with a stop at the Fruit Juice Factory and Distillery of Moorea to sample their liquors. Following your visit, you will re-board the off-road vehicle for your return ride to the pier.

Aquablue – Underwater walk
Explore Moorea's splendid marine life in a unique new way during this underwater walking and snorkeling adventure.
Depart the pier for the drive to the Intercontinental Moorea Resort & Spa. Upon arrival, you will meet your instructor, then be outfitted with your wet suit and water shoes before embarking on a 10-minute boat ride inside the majestic lagoon of Moorea. The crew will anchor the boat off the coast of Motu Fareone or inside the lagoon in Papetoai (depending on sea and weather conditions). Your certified diving instructor will explain your safety and diving instructions, help you put on your helmet, and assist you with descending the ladder into the crystal-clear water.
You will then commence your 30-minute underwater adventure at a depth of 12 feet. Along the way, you will see an abundance of fish that include triggerfish, butterfly fish, groupers, and parrotfish, swimming amid beautiful coral heads. Stingrays are also plentiful at this dive spot. While your guide feeds them, you will be able to take a closer look at these unusual ocean denizens.
Following your tour, you will be returned to the pier.

Catamaran sail in Moorea
Explore Moorea's beauty from above and below the water during this relaxing sailing and snorkeling excursion aboard a catamaran.
Depart the pier aboard the beautiful, 43-foot catamaran, and sail to Moorea's northern coast, then on to a pair of French Polynesian's most beautiful bays: Cook's and Opunohu. En route, you can sit back and relax, or savor a fruit juice under the canopy astern. Upon reaching Opunohu Bay, the captain will drop anchor in the clear blue waters of the lagoon. After receiving your safety and snorkeling instructions, you will have the chance to discover the underwater tiki place and the marine life residing there, including coral formations and reef fish.
Afterwards, you will set sail toward Cook's Bay before returning to your ship. The well-equipped catamaran offers facilities that include a rest room and shower, and a shaded area with comfortable seats.

Moorea by catajets*
Get an up-close look at Tahiti's idyllic beauty from above and below sea level during this catajet and snorkeling adventure in Moorea.
Depart the pier for the boat transfer to the base. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions from your guide, then embark your two-seat catajet for a 1.5-hour ride in an idyllic lagoon on Moorea. Led by your guide at an easy speed, you will take in panoramic views of the East Coast and Cook and Opunohu Bays, or the West Coast (weather permitting).
Next, a stop will be made for snorkeling in the shallow waters. After putting on your mask, fins and snorkel, you will explore the beauty of the tropical fish and coral formations. Your adventure will continue with a stop on a sand bar, where you will have an opportunity to play with stingrays.

BBQ on Motu & snorkelling
Your boat will take you through the beautiful waters of Cook's and Opunohu Bays whilst enjoying the scenery of the north coast of Moorea. Arrive at the Stingray spot for a moment to swim with these graceful and elegant creatures.

ATV guided tour*
Moorea's spectacular valleys, bays, and vistas are yours to discover during this guided ATV tour through the island.
Depart the pier in Cook's Bay for the brief transfer via minivan to the Hilton Moorea Lagoon & Spa, where the ATVs are based. Upon arrival, you will receive your safety and riding instructions. Then, begin your ATV ride. Your guide will lead you along the road to Belvedere lookout for magnificent views and photo opportunities over Cook's Bay, Opunohu Bay, and Mt. Rotui.
You will also venture across the valley, through a river, and past pineapple fields, and stop at an ancient open-air temple, or marae, to learn about the Polynesian culture. Afterwards, you will continue on to the Moorea Agricultural School, then ride across this large plantation and down to the Paopao Valley.

After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local English-speaking representative and depart by coach on an island exploration.
After passing through downtown Papeete, you will arrive at the district of Arue to visit “James Norman Hall Home”. This memorial museum is the exact replica of the original elegant green colonial home of this famous writer. Most known for the “Mutiny on the Bounty” trilogy and other known novels that were transformed into Hollywood movies.
You will then continue to Venus Point on Matavai Bay. Here you will see a Victorian-era lighthouse and monument commemorating the passage of Captain James Cook who came to observe the transit of Venus in 1769 as part of his work for the Royal Society.
Next, a stop will be allowed at Tahara'a “One Tree Hill”. The lookout provides impressive panoramic views across the “Sea of Moons” with Tahiti’s sister island, Moorea.

Day 1 – Papeete/Moorea
After disembarkation procedures are completed, you will be greeted at the port by our local representative.
You will be transferred to your ferry to Moorea. Upon arriving Moorea, you will be met by a representative from the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort 5* and be transferred to the resort.
After check-in, the afternoon is at leisure.
Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 & 3 – Moorea
Set against a stunning mountain backdrop melting into a crystal-clear lagoon with views over the island of Tahiti, the Sofitel Kia Ora Moorea Beach Resort is the perfect setting for a relaxing vacation. The bungalows, built over the water or surrounded by landscaped gardens, are made from natural materials and feature a rain shower. Make the most of the resort's white sandy beach, the most beautiful on Moorea, to sunbathe or explore a lagoon teeming with tropical marine life. Facilities include two restaurants, a bar, an outdoor swimming pool and a day spa.

Day 4 – Moorea/Papeete
Check out after an included breakfast and you will be transferred to the port of Moorea, to embark on a ferry to Papeete. Upon arriving in Tahiti, a local representative will assist you in transporting you to your Day Room at the Hilton Tahiti 4*.
Check-in and then relax in your room or take advantage of the resort’s amenities.
The Hilton Tahiti offers an ideal location, overlooking Moorea Island and close to the city centre. The elegant rooms are light and equipped with contemporary furniture for a warm and comfortable ambience. The hotel features a large outdoor pool, six bars and restaurants, a fitness centre and a spa.
Lunch and dinner are on your own.
You will then be transferred to the airport in time for check-in for the PONANT selected flight or any other flight (provided that you have previously communicated your flight schedule to your travel agent).
